Kupwara teacher goes missing in mysterious circumstances

On 28th of June when people in Trehgam village of Kupwara where still in the festive mood of Eid, a family in this remotest village were silently mourning the sudden disappearance of their son Bilal Ahmad Sheikh.

On 28th of June when people in Trehgam village of Kupwara were still in the festive mood of Eid, a family in this remotest village was silently mourning the sudden disappearance of their son Bilal Ahmad Sheikh.

In the afternoon of that fateful day, the 29-year-old had spoken to his sister who was asking him to come home for dinner, and after couple of minutes when the sister called again, the number was not reachable. And it's been seven days now neither is the phone able to trace the network, nor is the family able to find their lone son.

"It was 12 noon; he had gone out after he spoke to someone on phone and had an altercation with him. When the sister called him, he said he will come in a minute and since then he is missing," said Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Bilal's father.

This is not the first time that Bilal had gone missing. Couple of years ago, he was kidnapped, the family alleges, but was released later after couple of days.

"We thought he had gone somewhere, and after couple of days when he came back he didn't tell us anything about the kidnapping. It was later we got to know about it," said Abdul Rashid. Also, Rashid said, "He was once framed in the false case of stone pelting, and when we asked the police to prove the veracity of the report, they remained silent and said 'we got a letter from Army to arrest this man'."

And now, again, Bilal, who is working as a teacher in the Army Goodwill School, Trehgam, has been missing for seven days. The family has filed a missing report in police station Kupwara.

Bilal, the sole breadwinner of his family, is a teacher with a masters degree and had recently qualified the preliminary exams of KAS. "A person was giving threat calls to Bilal," said his family.

"He had changed his SIM card because of the frequent threat calls. And the day he had left home he had a verbal brawl with someone," his cousin said. Principal of the Army Goodwill School, Trehgam, Shakeel Ahmad Sheikh said, "Since April he has taken 15 leaves, because he was suffering from some problem."

The family believes that Bilal has been kidnapped by the people who were giving him threat calls. "I am sure that he has been kidnapped by the people who kidnapped him before," said Rashid.

Station House Officer (SHO), Trehgam, Parvaiz Ahmad said, "We are investigating the case. As of now, no clue related to kidnapping has been found, but we are trying to trace Bilal."
