Sub-divisional magistrate in Sonawari area has asked all licensed gun-holders to deposit firearms at their respective police stations.

According to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sonawari, all the gun holders of the sub-division have been asked to deposit their licensed firearms in their respective Police Stations within fortnight.

The step has been taken to stop poaching of the migratory birds like shoveller, coof, commonteal, pinpail and other birds in Wular lake and its adjoining wet lands particularly in the villages of Banyari, Kinyari, Mukhdamyari, Nowgam and Trigam and other areas adjacent to the lake.

SHOs of the police stations of this Sub. Division have been directed to issue notices to such persons who do not deposit their guns within the stipulated time and take actions against the violators to ensure no poaching of these birds takes place within their respective jurisdictions.
