The revered shrine of Baba Fareed (RA) situated at Garkote Uri in Baramulla district suffered massive damages after lightning struck on Wednesday morning, an official said.
The shrine is revered by the people on either side of Line of Control. “Baba Fareed spent maximum years of his life in worship at the same place,” said an elderly resident of Baramulla town.
Grieved over the incident, Chief Minsiter Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said, “Saddened to hear about the damage caused to the holy shrine of Hazrat Baba Fareed (R.A.) at Garkote, Uri due to a lightning strike. Directed the Baramulla Deputy Commissioner and other concerned officers to visit the shrine complex to take necessary measures for its restoration.”
