‘Make efforts to get back my father’s mortal remains’

On the 5th death anniversary of his father Muhammad Afzal Guru, Ghalib Afzal, today urged the resistance leadership to make efforts for the return of his mortal remains from Tihar jail in New Delhi.

“It is fifth death anniversary of my slain father and we are still waiting for his mortal remains. The stakeholders of this freedom struggle need to strive for return of his mortal remains” said Ghalib, during a program organised by Democratic Freedom Party at Sopore here on Friday.

Ghalib and his mother had moved to Doabgah Sopore four days ago from Baramulla to make preparation for organizing prayers for Guru.  “I wish like others, i too could offer prayers at the grave of my father” said Ghalib.  “It is extremely painful for a family that their loved one has been hanged and they don’t have his mortal remains to mourn,” he said.

The entire Guru family and locals on Friday gathered and offered prayers for Guru. The area witnessed protest also by the resistance leaders and locals who demanded return of Guru’s mortal remains.
