A man died while clearing snow in Gurez area of North Kashmir's Bandipora district on Thursday.
An official said that the loader operator died after his vehicle skidded off the road and fell into Kishen Ganga river while clearing snow near an under construction dam site in Malik Kadal area of Gurez.
"He has been identified as Shamraiz Khan resident of Uri. He died on spot after the vehicle skidded off the road. His body was later retrieved from the river," he said.
"Shamraiz was known for his bravery in HCC. He had last year cleared snow on Gurez road near Razdan Top all alone and made the road through for traffic. He was a brave man," an official of HCC told Greater Kashmir.
The dam is being constructed by HCC as part of a 330-megawatt power project owned by the NHPC.
Meanwhile, Gurez has witnessed heavy snowfall since Tuesday. "Gurez valley including Dawar tehsil has recorded 2.5 feet snow while Razdan Top has recorded 4 feet snow till today evening," an official told Greater Kashmir.
Earlier, 80-KM Bandipra-Gurez road only road connecting Gurez with Bandipora and rest of the valley was closed for all sorts of traffic movement on Tuesday after heavy snowfall at Razdan Top.
