Media ends boycott of Kashmir assembly after Speaker apologises

Media ended the boycott of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday after Speaker Kavinder Gupta apologised and assured that gag on electronic media would not be repeated.

Media ended the boycott of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday after Speaker Kavinder Gupta apologised and assured that gag on electronic media would not be repeated.

Media-persons refused to return to the House despite the government issuing a revised order, saying "it has now been decided by the authorities concerned that the journalists can carry video and still cameras and mobile phones inside the Press Gallery of the Legislature for the coverage of the special session."

The media-persons demanded that the Speaker first come to meet them before they end their boycott.

The journalists had earlier walked out of the press gallery to protest the government order banning the entry of media-persons with cell phones, still and video cameras inside the House.

The Opposition Members, including National Conference were seen raising slogans against the coalition government for media gag.
