Mehbooba seeks release of Shahid ul Islam

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday sought an ‘early release’ of jailed Hurriyat (M) leader Shahidul Islam.

In a tweet, Mehbooba said she has spoken with the Home Minister Rajnath Singh to seek release of Islam on humanitarian grounds. “Have spoken with HM requesting his (Shahidul Islam’s) early release on humanitarian grounds as his wife has suffered a brain haemorrhage,” tweeted Mehbooba.

Islam was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in an alleged funding case last year and is currently undergoing detention at Tihar jail in New Delhi.

His wife suffered a heart attack last weekend following which she was hospitalised.
