MENDHAR ENCOUNTER: DAY 14 | Manhunt for militants on

Rajouri: Security forces continued a manhunt for militants hiding in dense woods of Nar Khas of Bhata Dhurian village in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch with no headway as the encounter entered its 14th day on Wednesday.

The encounter in this forest area had started on October 14 after an army search team came in contact with the militants. Two army personnel were killed in the fierce gun battle. Two others had gone missing. Their bodies were recovered from the forest after two days.

   

Officials told Greater Kashmir that the anti-militancy operation continued for the fourteenth consecutive day today, however, no fresh gunfire was reported from the encounter site in the last twenty-four hours.

They said, “The manhunt for militants, hiding in woods, continued and the teams of army and police including elite commandos of army, were on job to carry out the operation.”

They, however, confirmed that there was no major headway in the operation so far. “Only major development was the recovery of some arms and ammunition from the encounter site on Tuesday,” they added.

On the other hand, the locals from the area said that smoke engulfed some parts of the forest on Wednesday.

“Smoke was billowing from the forest area this morning. This continued till evening ,” locals said.
