MHA security advisor reviews situation in southern districts

While reviewing security in two district of southern Kashmir, senior security advisor in Union Ministry of Home Affairs, K Vijay Kumar on Wednesday stressed upon the security forces for strengthening relationship with people.

Kumar, who arrived here Wednesday, visited Pulwama, Shopianand Awantipora police districts of southern Kashmir.

   

He interacted with seniorofficers of J&K Police and paramilitary forces. He was accompanied byInspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar and senior officers fromparamilitary forces.

Asenior officer said Kumar stressed upon the security forces, particularlypolice that policing should be strengthened at grassroots level in J&Kwhich would subsequently enhance proficiency of the force to develop confidenceamong people.

Kumar also asked for “revisiting the strategies” tostrengthen police-public relations for achieving better results, the officersaid.

While addressing meetings of police officers in Awantipora,Pulwama and Shopian, Kumar said besides fighting militancy, priority of theforce should be to enhance professional capabilities to ensure rule of law.

“Communitypolicing is mandatory to boost public confidence which would help in fightingcrime and social evils,” he said.

Referring to the criminal activities, Kumar stressed uponthe officers to brace up with missionary spirit to fight against drug abuse andother social evils.

During the visit, the IGP Kashmir briefed the Advisor aboutprevailing security scenario in Pulwama and Shopian districts. He also apprisedhim about steps being taken for improving police-public relation.

The district SSPs who were present during the interactiongave detailed briefing about anti-militancy operations in their jurisdictions.

Those who were present during the interaction included DIGsouthern Kashmir, SSP Pulwama, SSP Shopian, SSP Awantipora and senior officersfrom CRPF and SSB.

The official said Advisor Kumar lauded J&K Police andother security forces for their efforts in maintaining peace and tacklingmilitancy. He stressed for complete synergy between security forces.
