Militant killed in Chadoora gunfight; Internet snapped in Budgam, Pulwama

A militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Patrigam village of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Muneer Khan said that only one militant was killed in the gunfight. He said the reports that three militants were killed in the gunfight as baseless.

“The body of one militant has been recovered. The operation has ended,” said Khan.

He said that a gun was also recovered from the site of the gunfight.

As the gunfight began, authorities suspended the mobile Internet in twin districts of Budgam and Chadoora. “The Internet was suspended to prevent spreading of rumours,” said an official.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Chadoora after youth took to streets and staged protests.

The forces lobbed teargas shells and fired pellets after protesters pelted them with stones.

A health official at Sub-district hospital Chadoora confirmed that two youth with pellet injuries were treated at the facility.
