Srinagar June 25: An unidentified militant was killed while his associate surrendered during a gunfight in Hanjipora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday, police said.
The gunfight broke out this afternoon after a joint team of police and security forces cordoned off the area.
In the initial exchange of fire, a militant was killed by the security forces, a police spokesperson tweeted.

The identity and affiliation of the slain militant were not immediately known.
In another tweet, the police spokesperson said that a second militant affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit surrendered during the gunfight before the security forces alongwith an AK 56 rifle.
The identity of the surrenderer militant was also not known immediately known.
