Militant killed in Pulwama gunfight, another injured

A militant was killed and another injured during a gunfight with the government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday, police said.

A police official said that army men of 55 RR, CRPF personnel and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police laid a siege around a cluster of houses in Babgund area of Pulwama town and started door to door search operations around 2am.

   

Militants hiding in one of the residential houses fired upon the forces, triggering a gunfight, said the official, adding that one militant was killed during the exchange of fire. 

THe identified the slain militant as Shabir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Samboora.

Another militant, identified as Showkat Ahmad and belonging to Muran village of Pulwama, was critically injured in the gunbattle. 

Police said Ahmad managed to escape the security cordon and was later admitted by unknown persons in Srinagar’s S.M.H.S hospital.

Hospital sources said the militant had sustained a bullet injury in his abdomen, and was stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, a police official said that curfew has been imposed in entire Pulwama town “as a precautionary measure” to prevent protests.
