Violent protests broke out in Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Friday following the killing of a local militant in Handwara area of adjoining Kupwara district last night.
Reports said that the forces were deployed in strength in Arampora to prevent protests against the killing of local militant Naseer Teli in a shootout with forces.
They said that the forces fired tear gas at the mourners who were marching with the body of Teli in Arampora, triggering intense clashes.
Teli was buried at the martyrs' graveyard in Chinkipora amid pro-freedom slogans. Thousands of people attended his last rites, said a witness.
