Militants attack army patrolling vehicle in south Kashmir’s Shopian

Few gunshots were heard near Ladi area of south Kashmir''s Shopian district on Saturday evening, locals and police said.

Suspected militants fired upon an army vehicle in Ladi area of Nuly Poshwari in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday. However, there was no report of any casualties.

According to local source, militants were hiding in orchards and fired few rounds at a vehicle of army's Rashtriya Rifles. 

The army personnel travelling in the vehicle retaliated by firing several shots, leading to a brief exchange of fire. The gunshots also created panic among the inhabitants.

The militants, as per source, have managed to escape from the spot even as the forces launched the CASO in the area.

Soon after the incident, the forces personnel comprising Jammu and Kashmir police, army's Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area.

Speaking to Greater Kashmir, superintendent of police (SP) Shopian Ambarkar Siriram Dinkar said: "Few gunshots were heard in the area. We are in touch with locals to know what exactly has happened."
