Militants on Sunday morning fired upon an army patrolling party at Shumriyal forests of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
SSP Kupwara, Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar said that the search party of army’s 28 RR was fired upon by a group of militants in the forests. “A brief exchange of gunfire took place in the area,” he was quoted as having said by GNS news agency.
The entire area is under cordon and search operation to track down the militants, he said.
Reports said that additional reinforcements of army’s 9 PARA have also rushed to the spot and joined the operation.
