Miraculous escape for family after tree falls on house

A family of seven had a miraculous escape today after a giant walnut tree fell on their residential house at Jugtyal village of Hayhama, here last evening.

Due to heavy rains and strong winds, a walnut tree came crashing down on the house of one Ali Muhammad Lone son of Mahaad Lone of KotbalJugtyal. All the seven family members were inside the house. 

   

The tree crushed the roof and backside of the one storied brick house resulting in loss worth lakhs of rupees to the house of the poor family.

Luckily, none of the family members suffered any injuries, sources said.

“Amid heavy rains winds, we heard a big bang which shook our house and we ran for safety. We saw an old walnut tree had fallen on our residential house damaging it badly. Luckily all the family members escaped unhurt,” said Ali Muhammad Bhat owner of the house.

Locals said a large number of old and decaying walnut trees located close to residential houses in entire Kupwara district are posing a serious threat to life, livestock and other property of the people.

“There is a blanket ban on cutting of these trees. It requires a hectic procedure for chopping of old and decaying walnut trees which are located close to residential houses, and schools,” the locals said.

Locals said that these decayed trees can collapse due to blowing of winds and can pose threat to life of commuters and pedestrians on this busy road which is housing several educational institutions.
