Mirwaiz deplores denial of rights

Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq took to social media on Monday to draw the world’s attention the prevailing rights situation in Kashmir.

In a series of tweets, the chief cleric of Kashmir said: “As the world observes #HumanRightsDay today #Kashmir continues to suffer and simmer! Mothers mourning martyred teenaged sons! homes blown up, inmates on the road in biting cold !people thrashed beaten and harassed while most leadership detained. Appeal to all to help put an end… to this inhumanity with the resolution of the Kashmir dispute #KashmirBleeds #KashmirKillings”.

In another tweet, Mirwaiz said, “While Universal Declaration of Human Rights continues to be the milestone for universal laws around the world. In #Kashmir, political and human rights continue to be violated. On this #HumanRightsDay, here are some reminders. Everyone has the right to freedom of movement. But in Kashmir 75000 are in ‘Blacklist’ for passports. Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly, but in Kashmir peaceful assemblies and protests continue to be curbed by frequent military crackdowns and curfews”.

The Joint Resistance Leadership, of which Mirwaiz is a constituent along with Syed Ali Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik, has been observing human rights week and have held candle light protests to highlight rights violations in Kashmir.

On Monday, a shutdown was observed across Kashmir against “gruesome human rights situation” at the hands of government forces, called by the JRL.

In a statement the trio said, “The leadership once again urged the world peace organizations, the international community, Amnesty International Asia Watch, United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)  and International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to take note of the Kashmir situation and put pressure on New Delhi to stop the grave human rights violations forthwith.”
