GHurriyat (M) chairman and Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention on Friday morning.
The detention comes ahead of a call by the Joint ResistanceLeadership asking people to protest the custodial death of Awantipora schoolprincipal Rizwan Assad Pandith.
“On Friday, March 22nd, 2019, after Friday (Juma) prayers,people at all Masajid, Khanqahs and Imam Baras will raise their voicespeacefully against this custodial killing by NIA and SOG and continuing policyof oppression,” said a statement issued by the JRL earlier this week.
Mirwaiz addresses the gathering at the Jamia Masjid inNowhatta every Friday.
