Mirwaiz remembers Bijbehara massacre victims

While paying tributes to martyrs of Bijbehara on their 25th anniversary, incarcerated Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday said that it was black day in the history of Kashmir which witnessed 53 innocents were killed and more than 70 persons were injured by forces at Bijbehara as people were protesting against the siege of Dargah Hazratbal Shrine.

Mirwaiz in a statement said, “Kashmiris had continuously been at the receiving end of such brutalities. Hawal, Zakura, Gaw Kadal, Bijbehara and Chatti Singhpora massacres were just a few examples where people had been butchered mercilessly and that these incidents had left an indelible mark on the psyche of the people as it was impossible for them to nurse their wounds,” he said.

Mirwaiz said, “Govt of India has shielded the culprits of these massacres rather than punishing them , it was  a glaring example of how the state has operated ruthlessly in  Kashmir for the past 30 years. Paying tributes to all the martyrs of Kashmir’s movement since 1931 to the recent martyrs of Kulgam, he said, “Nations and dignified and thoughtful people always remember sacrifices of their people and safeguard them till times immemorial.”
