Moulvi Bashir Ahmad, a close relative of Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, passed away today after brief illness at Jammu.
"A member of the Mirwaiz family and son of late Moulvi Ghulam Mustafa of Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal, Moulvi Shabir Ahmad, presently residing at Mustafabad, Zainakote HMT passed away after a brief spell of illness at Jammu," a spokesman of the Awami Action Committee ( AAC), in a statement today, said.
Soon after hearing about Moulvi Shabir's demise, Mirwaiz visited the Mustafabad, Zainakote HMT residence of the deceased and led the Nimaz-e-Jinaza which was attended by members of the Mirwaiz family, neighbours, and prominent members of the society.
Later, the deceased was buried at the ancestral graveyard of the Mirwaiz family amid moist eyes.
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting of the Jammu Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) was held today in which the AAC members expressed grief and shock over the death of Moulvi Shabir Ahmad.
The members expressed sympathy and solidarity with the Mirwaiz and the entire Mirwaiz clan.
The meeting, while passing a resolution paying glowing tributes to Moulvi Shabir Ahmad, said "the deceased was a religious and freedom-loving person who had dedicated his life for the resolution of Kashmir issue and worked hard toward the right to self determination of Kashmiris."
The meeting prayed offered special prayers for the deceased and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the congregational Fateh Khawani of the deceased would be held on January 20, Friday at 11 am at the deceased's Mustafabad Zainakote, HMT residence.
