Mirwaiz’s release welcome development: Hakeem Yaseen

Welcoming release of Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Miwaiz Umar Farooq, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Chairman Hakeem Yaseen Thursday sought release of all other political detainees to pave way for the restoration of political process and confidence building measures in Jammu and Kashmir.

A statement of PDF issued here quoted Yaseen while talking to various public deputations during his three-day tour to Khansahib constituency as welcoming the release of the Mirwaiz. He said that the Mirwaiz’s release would help restore political activities and open up doors for dialogue to settle issues amicably.

Yaseen urged the Government of India (GoI) and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to release all other political detainees for paving way for the revival of political process in Jammu and Kashmir. He also urged for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and holding assembly polls at the earliest.

Yaseen said restoration of statehood to J&K, as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in the parliament was key to bring peace in the trouble-torn J&K. He said GoI should hold assembly elections in J&K at the earliest as people feel helpless to get their grievances redressed due to the prevailing “deep disconnect” between the bureaucracy and the public.
