MLA Langate Er Rasheed today staged a sit-in outside DC office in Kupwara seeking punishment against the accused forces in killing of five youth last year in Handwara.
Hundreds of people hailing from different walks of life participate in the condolence meet. On the occasion, Rasheed condemned government for "shielding culprits in uniform." "Government had promised action against killers of Nayeem and others within a month but the credibility of the rulers has came under big doubt as nothing has been done till date. It was Mehbooba Mufti (Chief Minister) who had promised jobs and other ex-gratia to the members of families of five victims. I demand ex-gratia for martyrs. It does not amount to seeking undue favour from the Government or does not mean sell out of the sacrifices," he said.
"Kashmiris have no scope to forget their huge sacrifices and only tribute to Martyrs is to create unity among masses and remain firm on demand of right to self determination," Rasheed said.
"I want to remind New Delhi that the complete shutdown in Chenab and Pir Panchal valley should be an eye opener for those claiming movement to be confined to Kashmir valley only," he said.
Later the protestors led by Rasheed sat on a peaceful sit in outside DC Office Kupwara, asking immediate arrest of accused
Among others, Aijaz Sofi President Traders federation Handwara and lawyer and social activist Advocate Ghulam Nabi Khan also addressed the protestors.
