Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (HCBA), Srinagar, has welcomed the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Jerusalem, calling upon United States (US) to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
"HCBA welcomes the backing of the resolution, calling USA, to drop its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, by 128 countries of the world, at the UNGA despite the threatening given by USA President Donald Trump to cut off financial aid to countries which may vote in favour of the resolution," a spokesman of the HCBA, in a statement today, said describing the resolution as a moral victory of Palestinian people and a set back to the American imperialism and hegemony in the world.
Meanwhile, the spokesman condemned the re-arrest and detention of Syeda Asiya Andrabi, who was granted bail by a court at Srinagar on 2nd December.
"Instead of releasing her, she was booked in an FIR of 2010, so as to make her release impossible and was lodged at some unknown place," the spokesman said.
"The Bar Association condemns the whisking away of Mushtaq-ul- Islam, whose order of detention was quashed by the High Court but instead of releasing him, he was detained at some unknown place," the spokesman said.
It appealed the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Asia Watch and other Human Rights Organizations of the world to take notice of treatment meted out to political detainees and under trial prisoners of Kashmir.
