Motorbike borne militants fire at forces patrol

Suspected motorbike borne militants Sunday attacked a joint patrol group of police and paramilitary CRPF troopers in Dalipora area of the town, a police officer said.

“The pillion rider fired multiple pistol shots at the patrol, but no one was killed or hurt,” the police officer said, adding that the attackers fled the area before the government forces could react.

This is the second attack on the government forces during past 48 hours in south Kashmir. Earlier, on the afternoon of June 29 three soldiers were wounded when militants attacked them in Ahgam area of Shopian district.

On Sunday, Pulwma observed a complete shutdown for the second straight day against the killing of a civilian and a militant during a firefight on Friday and clashes that followed the encounter between militants and government forces.

Shops, business establishments and educational institutes remained shut in the town and its adjoining areas. Public transport was sparse but private vehicles in some areas could be seen plying. A heavy contingent of police and CRPF personnel were deployed at multiple locations in the town to thwart any possible protests.
