A narco-militant module was busted in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district by arresting a militant associate and recovering 8 kg narcotics worth Rs 50 crores.

SSP Kupwara G V SundeepChakarvarthy said that acting on a specific tipoff, Police arrested a militant associate and recovered 8 kg heroin from his possession.

He identified him as Mudasir Ahmad Lone of Karen Bala.

“The estimated market value of the heroin is about Rs 50 crore,” he said.

Chakarvarthy said that more arrests were on the cards and within few days a special development was anticipated in this regard.

“The module was in involved in drug trade and assisting active militants of Kashmir financially. The recoveries also exposed the inter-connection between drug dealers and militants,” the SSP said.

He said that the module was working for militants to strengthen their activities in Kashmir and were misguiding and motivating the local youth to join militant ranks.

Chakarvarthy said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been constituted headed by a Senior Superintendent (SP) level officer to probe the case further and investigate it thoroughly.

The SSP said that this year infiltration had been very negligible but regular attempts were being made from the other side of the LoC to send drugs to this side and make money out of it.

He said that this year Police recovered 28 kg heroin worth Rs 120 crore while 32 FIRs had been lodged against 45 persons.

Chakarvarthy assured that Police would continue its war against drug peddlers involved in the narco-modules.
