NC demands release of Shameema Firdous

National Conference on Monday said the prolonged incarceration of the party’s women wing leader and former three-time legislature, Shameema Firdous debunks claims of present dispensation about women empowerment.

While expressing concern over Firdou’s health condition,provincial secretary, Showkat Mir said, in a statement said, “It is heartwrenching to see one of our outstanding women leaders being held underprolonged detention. She has not been keeping well owing to her continuousconfinement for past seven months.”

   

He said a person of Firdou’s standing who has served onvarious key positions should not have received such “awful treatment.”

She has been lending voice to people of her constituency. Aname to reckon with her contribution towards democracy has been immense,” saidMir.

“To ensure resumption of political activities in J&K,all incarcerated leaders and political activists lodged in jails or under housearrest should be released without any delay,” said Mir.
