NC legislator protests in assembly against setting up of army camp in Shamsipora

Opposition National Conference (NC) legislator Abdul Majid Larmi on Saturday staged protest in the assembly over setting up of an army camp in Shamsipora Home-Shalibugh area of south Kashmir. 

Larmi stormed into the well and demanded a statement from the government over the issue.

   

Responding to the MLA, Minister for Parliamentary affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri said the government has directed the concerned Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to resolve the matter.

The residents of Shamsipora village of Anantnag district on Friday protested for the second consecutive day against the establishment of an army camp in the village.

Independent legislator and MLA Langate Engineer Rashid also joined the protests and after listening to the locals met deputy commissioner Anantnag to apprise him about the issue.

The commissioner later assured the villagers that he has spoken to the higher authorities and the camp might not be established.

The army’s counter-insurgency force Rashtriya Rifles has started taking over nearly 10 hectares of grazing land and playfield in the village.

Larmi had on Friday raised the issue in the House.

Meanwhile, the residents have threatened of an agitation if the army camp was not removed immediately.
