NC MPs demand evacuation of stranded students, laborers, others

National Conference Members of Parliament, Farooq Abdullah, Muhammad Akbar Lone and Hasnain Masoodi on Wednesday sought immediate intervention of Prime Minister Narnedra Modi for evacuation of scores of J&K residents stranded in different parts of country.

In a joint statement the party MPs while expressing concernover the plight of the stranded people said they mostly include students andlaborers. “They are now short of cash, with all earnings made by hard labor,drained out because of extended stay outside Jammu and Kashmir due to thelockdown,” the statement said.

   

“It is becoming increasingly difficult for them to get twosquare meals to pay for rent and their return journey. The plight of studentsstranded at Amritsar, Delhi, Aligarh, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and otherplaces is a cause of deep concern and calls for preparation of an evacuationplan,” the statement said.

It said the concern for safety of the stranded andapproaching holy month of Ramzan also call for an immediate evacuation plan.”The soaring temperatures in the plains are also adding to the woes of thosestranded,” the MPs said.

While expressing anguish over failure of the administrationto reach out to the stranded, the MPs sought an immediate relief packagecomprising of ration and cash assistance till evacuation plan was put in placeand executed. They demanded nomination of nodal officers in Punjab, HimachalPradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan, accessible to those stranded inthese states.

Pressing for the immediate attention of the Prime Ministeramid the grim situation faced by hundreds of students from Jammu and Kashmirstranded in Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan, the MPs sought return of students andpilgrims from Iran and other countries and insisted on their evacuation withoutany delay.

They said the measure of helping scores of strandedstudents, traders and laborers will bring respite to their families who wereexceedingly worried about their well being.
