Need to prevent crimes against women: Tarigami

The CPI-M leader MY Tarigami on Sunday said International Women’s Day was celebration of power of women and their role in day-to-day life in a society.

In a statement Tarigami said women play a very significantrole in overall development of any society and Kashmir was no exception.

   

“But what is ironic is that despite her equal share in thehuman development, she remains at mercy of men at least in our part of theworld,” he said. “Unfortunately, women in many regions of Jammu and Kashmir arestill facing the issues and challenges related to education, health, domesticviolence, politics, declining sex ratio, dowry harassment, eve teasing, unequalwages and child labour,” he said.He said it wasessential to implement long standing multi-dimensional recommendations of VermaCommittee for prevention of crimes against women and to ensure swift justice inall cases of sexual crimes against women.
