New Delhi has declared war against civilians in Kashmir: Geelani

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has condemned the killings in southern areas of Kashmir.

“New Delhi has declared war against civilians in the state. Nowhere on earth such brute force is used against unarmed civilians,” Geelani said in a statement.

“Killing of civilians is unfortunate. The government forces are resorting to their terror policies to continue their unauthorised rule,” Geelani said in a statement.

Blaming authorities for their ‘arrogance and stubborn attitude’, Geelani said, “We are not being allowed to mourn even our slain youngsters and the authorities are putting curbs on condolence meetings in memory of slain youth. The resentment shown by youth in Kashmir is justified.”

“New Delhi showing no concern is the sole reason for this unabated bloodshed. Youth have no option but to resent to defend their rights,” he said.

Extending condolences to bereaved families Geelani said, “We share the grief and pray for the strength to the grieved families to bear irreparable loss. We also pray for speedy recovery for those injured during forces shoot out.”

Geelani urged human rights organisations, the International War Tribunal and Amnesty International to take cognizance of the incident and fulfill their responsibilities in saving precious lives in the state.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat today flayed the police authorities for not allowing funeral prayers in absentia at Hyderpora here today for the youth who were slain in south Kashmir on Sunday.

“The call for offering funeral prayers of slain youth in absentia was given by the amalgam chairman Syed Ali Geelani but the police authorities scuttled the move,” the Hurriyat spokesman said, adding “As soon Geelani Sahab attempted to come out of his residence to offer funeral in absentia, he was stopped by police.”

Referring to the statement of the DG Police that Geelani is now free, the spokesman said, “Their rhetoric for freedom of speech proved hoax as political and religious leaders are continuously caged and political space denied.”
