Kashmir University (KU) erupted in late night student protests in wake of civilian and militant killings during encounters in Shopian and Anantnag districts.
Witnesses said the female hostel boarders assembled in the premises of the girls’ hostel of the varsity and were chanting pro-freedom slogans.
They said female boarders from Qurat Ul Ain, Habba Kahtoon, Bibi Amina and Rabiya Basri hostels participated in peaceful protests.
“The hostel boarders makde attempts to move out of the premises but the authorities locked the gates and kept the protesting students confined to the compound,” witnesses said.
