Chandigarh, Mar 27: Chairman of the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), Manzoor Wangnoo was honoured with the prestigious 3rd Chandigarh Green Award 2024 by the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), Chandigarh on Wednesday.
A statement of the NLCO issued here said that the award was conferred to Wangnoo at a momentous occasion at the Chandigarh Climate Meet, an international conference focusing on ‘Environment and Sustainable Development’.
It said that the accolade was presented in the presence of distinguished delegates and environmentalists from across the country for his contributions and efforts in revitalising the lakes and water bodies of Kashmir.
The statement said that Wangnoo has been spearheading the public-led campaign ‘Mission Ehsaas’, dedicated to the revival of the twin urban lakes of Gilsar and Khushalsar.
It said that his initiatives have garnered widespread acclaim and massive support from various quarters.
The statement said that in collaboration with the district administration of Ganderbal, Wangnoo recently launched an ambitious project involving the plantation of 50,000 trees and the revival of springs across the district, furthering his commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.
It said that Wangnoo thanked the divisional administration, his family, friends, and stakeholders for their support, dedication, and collaboration that were instrumental in his mission.
