No civilian movement on highway today: IGP Traffic

Authorities on Saturday reiterated that no civilian vehicle would be allowed to ply on the highway on Sunday as it has been designated as “convoy day.”

“Sundays and Wednesdays are totally meant for securityforces’ convoys and no civilian vehicle will be allowed to ply on the highway,”IGP Traffic Alok Kumar told Greater Kashmir.

   

He said sector magistrates accompanied by DSPs have beendeployed on the highway to oversee the convoy movement. “In case of anyexigency, magistrates will allow only that vehicle, that too after properverification and checking. Otherwise no civilian vehicle will be allowed,” hesaid.

District Magistrate Udhampur Saturday ordered enforcement ofsection 144 Cr.PC for not allowing any vehicle expect of security forces on twodedicated days every week from 4 am to 5 pm.

The DM informed that in case there is requirement forcivilian traffic movement for any urgency especially medical emergency or forother purpose, concerned person may apply to ADC or SDM.

The DM said that these officers shall in consultation with the police authorities issue passes and permits on case to case basis considering the urgency of the situation given by the applicant.
