Authorities on Friday imposed curfew-like restrictions in areas around the Jamia Masjid, thus disallowing congregational prayers at the historic mosque for the 19th consecutive week.

Witnesses said that forces were deployed in strength in Nowhatta and adjoining areas to prevent the assembly of people.

They said that forces had erected barricades in the area, preventing people from heading to the mosque for prayers.

Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who delivers a sermon at the mosque every Friday remains under house arrest.
