No respite from cold weather conditions in Kashmir

Srinagar: There was no respite from cold wave in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Thursday even as the Meteorological Department has forecast rain, snow beginning Friday evening.

An official of the Meteorological Department (MeT) said a Western Disturbance (WD), a phenomenon that brings change in weather, is approaching J&K and Ladakh under influence of which rain, snow is likely to occur with main activity between December 5 and 7.

   

The MeT data said the minimum temperature was minus 1.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, minus 4.2 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam and minus 1.5 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Drass town of Ladakh recorded minus 11.8 degrees Celsius, Leh minus 6.3 degrees Celsius and Kargil minus 7.9 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature. Jammu city recorded 9.8 degrees Celsius, Katra 10.2 degrees Celsius, Batote 5.9 degrees Celsius, Banihal 0.8 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah 4.8 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperature, MeT data stated.
