No shortage of medicines in Kashmir: Govt

The government on Tuesday said Kashmir was receiving regular supplies of medicines and there was no shortage of medicines in the region.

The government clarified on the supplies after a news reportsuggested otherwise, and reports of hoarding of medicines created panic amongpeople.

   

It said there were sufficient stocks of all kinds ofmedicines available for at least one month with stockists in Kashmir, addingregular supplies were being received from Jammu from where around three-fourthof Kashmir’s retail market requirement is catered.

These drugs include both life-saving medicines and thosecategorised as general drugs. The government has urged people not to heedunofficial sources. It said that such tactics were used to create artificialscarcity which hoarders use to their advantage.

Meanwhile the government has issued strict warnings againsthoarders of medicines and those indulging in rumours suggesting shortage. Itwarned that strict action under law will be initiated against offenders.
