Noisy scenes were witnessed in the Upper House on Wednesday after opposition MLC Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri accused the Forest department of "huge embezzlement."
Veeri had sought information about number of sanctions issued till date against the applications received and sought date of receipt of applications with the date of issuance of sanctions as well.
Minister for Forest department Chaudhary Lal Singh said 5442 sanctions were issued by the DFO Lidder, who is the sanctioning authority. "The sanctioned is issued after verification by the concerned officials," the minister, while reading the written reply informed the House.
MLC Veeri however accused the government of corruption and giving misleading information to the members of the Upper House.
"Government has issued over 5000 sanctions but the department has given me the list of only 600 sanctions. This is unwarranted and uncalled for," the angry Veeri yelled in the House.
He accused the department of running a 'mafia" in the Lidder Forest Division and alleged an embezzlement of Timber worth crores in the division.
Demanding a House committee to probe the "corruption" in the department, Veeri staged walkout from the House after chairman refused to form the panel.
