With the complaints of unsatisfactory performance of some government officials in the state, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has directed authorities to scrutinize the list of non performing officials for immediate action, local news agency KNS reported on Tuesday.

Quoting sources the KNS said that Mehbooba Mufti is not happy with the performance of some officers and receives regular complaints from various departments about officials who either don't work at all or harass the public.

"Chief Minister has directed to classify these erring employees and has asked to compile the list for the immediate action," KNS quoted one of the top officials in the CM's secretariat as having said.

He said the Chief Minister has also considered that there is a notion among the masses that no action is taken against officials for their non-performance. "The government is taking various steps to change this perception and also change the perception of the officials that poor performance or harassing the public would not impact their job," the KNS said.

Quoting the official the news agency said, "The Chief Minister has said the government would not tolerate indiscipline among the bureaucrats and such officials will be punished."

"I am observing that people come to meet senior officials and the ministers in the civil secretariat only when the district administrations fail. This reflects failure of officials at the district-level. But our government will not excuse such officials who are not only lax but also fail to respond to needs and aspirations of the people," the KNS quoted CM as having told the officials.

"The CM has also directed not to disturb officials in their respective posts if they understand the aims and objectives of the government and discharge their duties honestly and effectively," the KNS said.

Quoting a top official, the news agency said the Chief Minister has also directed the secretaries whose departments are extensively involved in public dealing to establish a system for high-level monitoring of grievances immediately.

"I can say that there is a clear cut message to the officials, who despite several warnings have not reformed their way of functioning or professional conduct," the official added.
