Northern army commander visits Kashmir areas

The northern army commander lieutenant general Ranbir Singh Tuesday visited the hinterland formations in northern Kashmir where he reviewed the prevailing security situation and strategy for counter-militancy operations, officials said.

Singh was accompanied by the chinar corps commander lieutenantgeneral KJS Dhillon.

   

“The army commander also chaired an all-agency securityreview meeting at Badamibagh cantonment in Srinagar, during which theprevailing security challenges were discussed and a joint security strategy wasevolved for the coming summer months, including maintaining a secureenvironment during the forthcoming parliamentary elections,” a Srinagar-basedarmy spokesman said in a statement.

“The empowering atmosphere for the public to observenormalcy was highlighted. Efforts to continually achieve such benign conditionswere also acknowledged. The army commander was also briefed about the situationon the Line of the Control including the befitting response being given tounprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan, resulting in heavy casualties onthem,” the statement read.

Later, the army commander visited formations and unitsdeployed southern Kashmir, where local commanders briefed him on existingsecurity situation and the close coordination between all government agenciestowards maintaining vigil and peace in the Valley, the spokesman said.

“During his interaction with the soldiers, the armycommander was appreciative of the round-the-clock efforts towards giving asense of normalcy through dedicated, synergised and tireless endeavours,” thestatement read.
