Nothing wrong in Lal Singh’s rallies: BJP

In an indication that the BJP is rebuilding bridges with its estranged leader Chaudhary Lal Singh, the party on Thursday said there was nothing illegal in his rallies in support of the CBI probe in rape and murder of an eight year old girl in Kathua.

Lal Singh, the BJP said, was carrying out the political activity “to garner support for his party”.

“There is nothing illegal in Lal Singh’s rallies,” BJP Chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi told Greater Kashmir. “His rallies do not disrupt peace. There has been no stone pelting nor any law and order problem.”

Sethi said everybody had the right to demand things in a democratic country. “Lal Singh demands things peacefully and there is nothing wrong in that,” he added.

In April, the BJP had ousted Lal Singh as the forest minister for his participation in the Hindu Ekta Manch in defense of the accused in the Kathua rape and murder. The party had also forced resignation of Chander Prakash Ganga, then industries and commerce minister, who had also attended the rally.
