Official apathy mars 16 acre children’s park in Charar town

The 16 acre land designated for children’s park here in satellite colony of Charar I sharief township has remained unattended and underdeveloped for last 30 years due to the official apathy.

The park was established in the year 1987 here in the satellite colony of the township. Even after 30 years, the park is incomplete and unattended. Locals said the former governor Jagmohan had taken 1500 acres of land to construct the satellite colony where five public and children parks were supposed to be developed.

In 1988, the department of landscape and Charar I sharif development took the responsibly of maintaining the park. “But it lasted only for two years. Now you can see the deteriorating condition of the park. The landscape department in the town has completely failed to revive it,” said Javaid Ahmad Baba, a local resident.

The local residents blame the concerned authorities for not reviving the park for their children. “The park has turned into a hub of anti social activities now. Dogs roam around here and there is bad smell coming out during summers due to the animal and human waste dumped in the land,” said Ghulam Qadir, general secretary youth citizen counsil Charar.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Haroon Malik said, “We will revive it again and make a children’s park there soon.” The concerned MLA of the town could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
