On World Labour day, casual labourers protest, demand regularization
On the world labour day, hundreds of casual labourers and need- based workers staged a protest demonstration here at Press Enclave, seeking regularization of their services.
The protesters chanted anti-government slogans and accused the authorities of backing out of their promises.
Addressing the protesters, Muhammad Yousuf Wani, state president of Agriculture Casual Labourers, condemned the `indifference' of successive regime. "It is unfortunate that despite written agreements, government has failed to fulfill the commitments made with us," he said.
"They are mute spectator to the miserable condition of 61,000 casual labourers who are running from pillar to post for their regularization," he said.
Wani said the coalition government should regularize all 61,000 casual labours/ need- based workers, release their pending wages and implement the labour laws.
