Army organised a commemorative trek to Batra Top and Tiger Hill to mark the 20th anniversary of the victory in 'Op Vijay' in Kargil war, an Army spokesman said in a statement.
He said that it was an emotional remembrance to fallen soldiers of the Kargil conflict withPakistan, when troops of two battalions, 13 JAK RIF (Jammu And Kashmir Rifles)and 18 Grenadiers, reached the peaks which their 'paltans' concurred afterfought under nearly impossible conditions to drive out Pakistani troops exactly20 years ago.
"The battle of Tololing was a turning point in the progressof operations during the Kargil war. Theiconic Tololing feature stands aloft in Drass Sector as testimony to thesacrifice, grit and perseverance of troops of the Indian Army who wereundeterred to recapture this feature occupied by the intruders," he said.
"To commemorate this epic victory as part of the 20thanniversary of the Kargil war one such event was undertaken today by 2 RAJRIF;the battalion which stood the test of time during this battle. A trekking expedition to Tololing Top wasundertaken by 2 RAJRIF to honour and celebrate the victory achieved 20 yearsago amidst harsh terrain and weather conditions . The objective of the trek during thesecelebrations was to evoke the spirit of patriotism and pay homage to thegallant soldiers of the Kargil war," the spokesman added.
"The trekking team of the 2 RAJRIF consisting of OneOfficer, One Junior Commissioned Officer and twelve other ranks were flaggedoff from Jaisalmer on 22 June 2019. After inducting into Leh, the team completed its mandatory acclimatizationand necessary preparations by 3 Jul 2019. The team then set forth on the arduous task of summiting Tololing Topand successfully completed it. At thesummit the team was received by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, General Officer Commandingin Chief Northern Command. The GOC Northern Command lauded theefforts of the trekking team and reaffirmed the objective of the trek to fosterthe spirit of patriotism and pay homage to all gallant soldiers who had foughtthe Kargil War," the statement.
