PANCHAYAT POLLS: 500 BJP candidates file nominations from south Kashmir

Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday said around 500 of its candidates have filed their nominations in south Kashmir to stand in the Panchayat elections due to begin from third week of this month.

Ashok Kaul, general secretary of the saffron party says it will contest from all the wards from Kashmir valley. 

   

“I met the candidates and all block presidents in south Kashmir,” Kaul told Greater Kashmir, adding he reviewed election preparedness for all the four districts.

“We are hopeful of larger participation of people.”

Addressing leaders and workers of four southern Kashmir districts in Anantnag, Kaul said after extensive campaigning for the recently held ULB elections in the State, “the dedicated party cadre will spare no time in ensuring the victory of nationalist forces in the Panchyat polls also to defeat the desigins of the forces who are inimical to national unity and integrity.” 

The senior BJP state leader said the party cadre was enthusiastic about the polls.

“It is only due to the dedicated efforts of the central and state BJP leadership that has pressed hard for these elections to strengthen the lowest level of democracy,” Kaul said.

Vice president of the party’s state unit, Sofi Yousuf urged all cadres to work hard to formulate a strategy for achieving the BJP’s target of “Panchayat to Parliament”.

Other BJP state leaders present at the meet were president of the saffron party’s Minority Morcha Mohammad Sidiq Khan, district president Anantnag Mohammad Rafiq Wani, district president Shopian Javid Ahmad Qadri, district president Pulwama Master Abdul Gani and the organisation secretary south Kashmir Veer Saraf.
