Baramulla, Oct 29: The residents of Wussan in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district staged a protest on Friday, demanding supply of drinking water to the area.

The protesters blocked the Goshbugh-Pattan road for more than an hour, disrupting the movement of traffic.

The protesters, both men and women, raising slogans against the Jal Shakti department said that the entire village was without drinking water for the past month and the entire population was suffering.

“We are facing immense hardships,” said a female protestor. “We are forced to fetch drinking water from polluted streams in the chilly mornings. There is every possibility of the spread of water-borne diseases in the area.”

Demanding immediate intervention of higher authorities, the protesters said that if water supply to the village was not restored soon, they would be forced to intensify their protest.
