‘PDD risks life of Dhobiwan residents to benefit few’

The power development department Tangmarg has allegedly put three lines— 33KV, 11KV and an LT wire— on a single composite pole at Dhobiwan, Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, risking life of the locals.

Sources alleged that this has been done to benefit some influential people who are “in the process of constructing shopping malls on the Narbal- Gulmarg road.”

The locals alleged that the PDD employees shifted these lines on the single composite pole “during dead of the night to escape public gaze”.

“Though the PDD officials concerned were apprised of this illegal practice, they did not do anything in this regard,” Nasir Ahmad of Dhobiwan Tangmarg said.

He said since the area got heavy snowfall during winters and witnessed fast winds during summers, the “three circuits on single electric pole can prove dangerous for the area”.

Ghulam Rasool, a local alleged that the PDD officials don’t seem to bother about the local population.

When contacted, superintending engineer, PDD Baramulla, Muhammad Shafi said he would look in to the matter. “Since you have brought it to my notice, I will seek explanation from the officials concerned,” he added.
