Pending earth filling, bridge completed 3 yrs ago defunct

Residents of Hari Parigam village in this southern Kashmir district continue to remain disconnected as authorities have failed to complete earth filling work on a bridge constructed three years ago.

A resident of the village said the bridge was completed in2017 at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. However, he said, the authorities did not take upthe earth filling work on either sides of the bridge which would have made itmotorable and connected the village with the district.

   

“We continue to suffer despite the government spending lakhsof rupees on construction of the bridge,” he said.

Another local said people including school-going childrenand patients were forced to climb the bridge to reach the nearby road.

An official said the earth filling work was to be carriedunder the second phase of the project which was executed by Rural DevelopmentDepartment.

But, he said, the work was not taken up owing to unknownreasons.

The Block Development Officers, Awantipora said the earthfilling work will be taken up in next few days.
