People stage protest outside UN office in Srinagar
Scores of people staged a protest near the United Nations Military Observer's office at Gupkar road here however force personnel used tear smoke shells to disperse them.
Protesters raised pro-freedom slogans and sought the intervention of United Nations to resolve the Kashmir dispute.
They were, however, cane-charged by police and paramilitary forces near United nations Military Observer Group Between India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) office.
Eye witnesses said that the protestors were comprised of men, women and children hailing from different areas of Dalgate, Sonawar, and other adjoining areas.
Before reaching to UN office the protestors assembled at martyrs' graveyard situated at Dalgate from where they marched towards UN Office.
Few youth were also detained by police, eye witnesses added.
They said that the forces also fired tear-gas canisters into the houses of residents and also thrashed the pedestrians.
