PM holds PRAGATI video-conference with Chief Secretaries
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday held his monthly video conference, under his Pro-active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) initiative, with Secretaries of various Union Ministries and Chief Secretaries of States.
J&K Chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey, who has applied for voluntary retirement two days before over his reported differences with government, also participated in the conference.
The Prime Minister reviewed the implementation status of 'cold chain, value addition and preservation infrastructure scheme for horticulture' and 'Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project'.
The Prime Minister called for rapid expansion of the cold-storage infrastructure in the States to reduce wastage of perishable agricultural and horticultural produce. He directed early completion of all sanctioned projects under the scheme. The Prime Minister also called for further improving the effectiveness of CCTNS across all Police Stations in the country.
To encourage setting up cold chain infrastructure from farm gate to the consumers, Union Ministry of Food Processing is implementing the Scheme of Cold Chain, value addition and preservation infrastructure.
Under the scheme integrated cold chain and preservation infrastructure can be set up by entrepreneurs, cooperative societies, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), centre/state PSUs etc.
Jammu and Kashmir State projected a cold storage requirement of 4.21 Lakh MTs. Presently the cold storage availability in the State is just 0.517 Lakh MTs.
Similarly, under CCTNS project, out of the 215 Police Stations in J&K, the CCTNS software has already been deployed in 148 PSs and over 7000 FIRs have been registered on the system during 2010-2015. Moreover, State level crime and criminal database has been created and about 80% of the total sites have been successfully connected with the database.
Under PRAGATI, Prime Minister conducts meetings with Union Secretaries and Chief Secretaries on monthly basis to address common man's grievances besides monitoring and reviewing important programmes and projects of Government of India as well as important projects of State Governments.
