Police bring throat-slit Jaish suspect to hospital

Police on Thursday brought a 35-year-old man to a hospital here with his throat slit, claiming the suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad operative tried to commit suicide in their custody. 

A police statement said Feroz Ahmed Hajam son of Ghulam Rasool Hajam of Iqbal Pora Kherti Larnoo, wanted in connection with case FIR number 125/2018 of Police Station Kokernag, was brought for questioning on Wednesday.

   

“During the course of questioning the suspect went to attend the nature’s call and while in the washroom attempted to take his own life by slitting his own throat,” a police statement issued Thursday said.

“He (Feroz) was given immediate medical attention and shifted to hospital in critical condition. He is under treatment in hospital now.”

The statement did not mention from where Feroz was taken into custody.

A doctor who treated Feroz in Anantnag district hospital said, “He had cuts near his throat, his trachea damaged and was gasping for breath.” 

The doctor, who wished anonymity said, after being stabilised Feroz was shifted to Srinagar hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

Another doctor at Verinag hospital told Greater Kashmir that a police official from Dooru called asking to bring an ambulance to nearby army unit of 19 RR based at Nadoora village.

“As we reached the camp we found the throat-slit man lying there. We took the patient to Mir Bazar where a critical care ambulance was waiting to take him to district hospital Anantnag for treatment,” the second doctor said.  

Srinagar-based Army spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia declined to speak on the incident saying police have already issued a statement in this regard.  

“The legal proceedings have been initiated into the incident,” the police statement said.
